Random Notes for Wednesday

June 4th, 2008 | By: Ian Rose | 9 Comments »

My profile of the Romanian squad is up on the Euro 2008 blog’s main page. Go ahead and check it out, but if you’re a Romanian fan, it doesn’t tell you anything you don’t know. It was more of an introduction for people totally unfamiliar with the side. It’s a short review, so there wasn’t much chance to go into the deeper details of the team. There are a few nice videos, though, to get you in the mood for Monday’s opening match.

I will also be doing live blogs, with comments as the game goes on for those of you that can’t make it to a TV, for two of the three group stage matches. The first match on Monday will be handled by our France blogger Laurie, but the matches with Italy and Holland will be all mine, and I’ll let you know about them when they get closer.

Also, I wanted to make sure everyone knew about our bracket predictor contest. We are giving away prizes including three jerseys from your choice of Euro 2008 team (Tricolorii, of course), a new pair of Nike Euro 2008 boots, and a voucher for $200 in gear. It’s free to enter, and you just need a valid email address, so if you haven’t entered yet, do it now and show off your prediction skills. Very few people think Romania will do well in this group, and those of us that know better have a big advantage in this competition.

Only three days until Euro 2008 kicks off, and five until the Tricolorii step onto the pitch against France. I’ll have a preview of the France match up this weekend. As a displaced Scotland fan, I’m just learning about supporting Romania, but I appreciate all the comments. Hai Romania!

Go Romania!

Just curious, Ian, as a Scotland fan, are you rooting for Inverness striker Marius Niculae?

And I believe that if Romania wins its first match against France, it has a good shot of getting out of the group (it’s already shown it can beat the Netherlands).
