Tricolorii Crush Montenegro 4-0
Another warmup, another victory for Victor Piturca and the in-form Romanians. This week’s victim was lowly Montenegro, who did well to get to the half down only 1-0, after a 15th minute goal from Mutu. The second half, however, was not to be so kind to the Brave Falcons, and Sorin Ghionea struck just after the interval to double the lead, before Nicolae Dică scored his 9th and 10th international goals. I’ll add a highlight video once I find one. I know it’s only Montenegro, but they’re actually not a terrible team. They beat Norway in a recent friendly, and have a roster that includes Roma star Mirko Vučinić and Vladimir Božović, known to Romanian fans for his club duties over at Rapid. I really like the Montenegran side, and give them a lot of respect, so this is a very nice win for the Tricolorii.
The Group of Death better be watching.
As I reported on the main Euro 2008 page today, Ryan Babel is out for the Netherlands, taking one weapon away from their still potent attack. There are also concerns about France’s Patrick Viera, who is missing some friendlies with a knock himself.

Thanks, Daniel. It’s a busy day, and I hadn’t tracked them all down yet. Let’s hope they stay up long enough for fans to actually see them.

Ian, good job. I am Romanian but I couldn’t do better than you. Keep up the good work and HAI ROMANIA!

we had some flaws in deffence. Hopefully they wiil be fixed over this week. The Dutch also have these, the Italians never score a lot and the French don’t seem as mighty as a few years back (surprising given the quality of players they have at their disposal)… it will be tight!

Thanks, Traian. I appreciate it. And mastema – yeah, all of the group C teams, as good as they are, have problems. You’re right that Holland has defensive gaps, and hopefully Mutu can get between them and cause problems. I think the French are looking very suspect, but they have so much talent that they could look terrible, then turn around and absolutely kill anyone in the world. Same with the Italians, where Cassano could be either great or nothing … it’s going to be such a fun group to watch.

Excellent job Ian at following my national team! I am glad there’s some interest in the tricolorii. After analyzing the performances of the teams in our group I would say it’s encouraging and we are definitely going in on a strong note. I’m starting to think (and hope) more and more that we can actually cause a shock and make it out of the group. The only thing that bothers me a wee bit is that we’ve only played one pre-tournament friendly and that the Russia game was a bit far away to take into account and the Israel game even less (meh performence). All in all, great job man, keep it up and it’s looking good boys! Hai Romania!

I am a Romanian living in London. I think that Romania have been heavily underestimated. The team is finally starting to look a bit like the old team of the 90’s.4 in terms of confidence and playing together. But with even more of an attacking edge. I think and i pray that Mutu will have a blinding tournament up front and could potentially win the golden boot for the Euro 08. we have already beaten the Dutch last year and i have really strong faith that the boys can pull of results against all of our rivals in the group. I am happy we have been underestimated becasue everytime we are, we pull the rabbit out of the hat and win!!
HAI ROMANIA, TRICOLORUL inainte!!!!

OK, was a good game for us ,this match against Montenegro (young federation is born 2006 after his departure from Serbia )…Romania played against a small team without a lot of international experience…Hai Romania!
