Steaua Bucureşti cleared of charges

In positive news from Bucureşti, Steaua Bucureşti has been cleared of all bribery charges by Romania’s soccer Arbitrage Court and had the seven-point deduction that the LPF (Liga Profesionista de Footbal) overturned. This courts decision is final and cannot be appealed.

The court additionally reduced sanctions against Steaua Bucureşti owner, Gigi Becali, reducing his 24 month ban to six months from twenty-four and completely eliminated the ban on him attending matches as well as the outright ban of defender Petre Marin.

Hmm. So what do you think of the situation? Did they get off lucky? I heard Romania is very corrupt.

I’ll be quite honest, I’m biased because in my opinion Steaua Bucureşti is an institution in Romanian Football and I want to believe they are innocent. The only information I read of, wasn’t substantiated and if there were bank records they are very easy to support. However failing that there is no supporting evidence, it is only right that they found the verdict they did. Lets hope so and the sport will carry on with “fair play” and continue to be the great example to children throughout the world.
